Ventiflex system

The art of transporting fresh air

Ventilation systems are indispensable components of tunnel and mine constructions, serving multifaceted roles. Through meticulous design, implementation, and maintenance, these systems contribute to the overall safety, functionality, and sustainability of tunnels, enhancing the quality of life for users and workers alike.

TUNNELS AND MINES

During construction, various activities such as blasting, excavation, and machinery operation generate dust, fumes, and exhaust gases. Without proper ventilation, these pollutants can accumulate to dangerous levels, posing health risks to workers and reducing visibility. Moreover, stagnant air can lead to the buildup of harmful gases like carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which are byproducts of combustion engines and can cause asphyxiation and respiratory problem.

VENTILATION IS CRITICAL FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS

Air quality:  Mine tunnels and station tunnels require adequate ventilation for physiological, cooling and smoke control requirements. Ventilation in tunnel constructions is paramount for ensuring the safety, functionality, and durability of such infrastructures. Tunnels, by their very nature, restrict natural airflow and can accumulate hazardous gases, pollutants, and heat, creating an inhospitable environment for workers and users alike. Therefore, a well-designed ventilation system is essential to address several critical aspects during the excavation.

Temperature Regulation: Tunnels can experience significant temperature variations due to factors like geological conditions.

Fire Safety: Effective ventilation plays a crucial role in managing fire events by controlling the spread of smoke, heat, and toxic gases, thereby facilitating safe evacuation routes and aiding firefighting operations. Smoke extraction systems, for instance, utilize ventilation shafts to remove smoke from the tunnel, improving visibility and enhancing the effectiveness of emergency response efforts.

Pressure Management: Changes in air pressure within tunnels can occur due to factors such as vehicle movement, cross-sectional area variations, and external atmospheric conditions. Inadequate ventilation can exacerbate pressure differentials, leading to discomfort for users, structural integrity issues, and increased energy consumption for ventilation systems. Properly designed ventilation systems help mitigate pressure differentials by maintaining optimal airflow rates and distribution throughout the tunnel network.

Ventilation system

Ventilation accounts for more than 40 % of each mine or tunnel overall energy costs and energy cost has increased over 44 % in past years making up 10 % of all operating costs, hence the big expense after labour.

We can deliver also a wide range of ventilation systems for underground and mines structures.

Ventiflex accessories

The choice of duct quality is dictated by the working air pressure calculated for the ventilation system. We supply duct lengths to specification for all qualities and diameters. All ducts are supplied standard in yellow, apart from antistatic ducts, which are in light grey and white. All Ventiflex details have been developed to optimise air flow in accordance with the laws of aerodynamics and are produced in the strongest duct quality to withstand high stress.

VENTIFLEX SUSPENSION HOOKS – FOR MANY ENVIRONMENTS

The industrial design of our suspension hooks and the range we offer have been developed on the basis of many years of experience to cover a variety of environments and situations in underground ventilation systems. Our hooks are dimensioned to withstand high tensile stress caused by powerful external winds, internal turbulence and vibrations in the duct system.

Every Ventiflex hook system has its advantages :

Ventiflex VF hook

The Ventiflex VF hook has a 380 mm wire attached for alignment purposes in drill-and-blast (D&B) tunnels and mines. This hook is also essential in pur Duo-duct system.

Ventiflex snap hook

Ventiflex snap hooks are used for fast installation and dismantling. For many customers this is their preferred hook in TBM-driven tunnels.

LP hook

Ventiflex LP hooks are easy to attach straight to the suspension wire when there is no need to adjust the height
